Is Couples Therapy a Financial Burden?
The other day I was at the end of a session with a married couple and we were talking about scheduling the next few sessions. I asked them if they were wanting to start spacing their sessions out since they have been doing so well lately, and because I know that therapy can sometimes be a financial burden for families.
The husband’s answer completely caught me off guard. He said, “You know, this is our marriage we’re talking about. This is the most important thing in the world to me so I don’t see it as a financial burden at all. It is worth every penny.”
I was so grateful he presented me with that paradigm shift, and I only wish that every couple would view it in the same way. When you slow down long enough to evaluate what is truly most important in your life, (not just now but long-term importance) I sure hope that being happy in your marriage and family relationships is at the top of the list.
And if that’s the case, what would you be willing to sacrifice to obtain that?
As we approach this new year 2023, take some time to reflect on your relationships. Are you happy with yourself? Do you feel closely connected to the people that live under the same roof? If you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or hopeless, consider coming into therapy for some extra support.
It is worth every penny.
